This song comes from Vince Gill's 1993 Christmas CD LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH. I was reminded of it a few weeks ago when I learned that Sis was tapped to direct the kids' Christmas play at her church and had cast the Princess in the lead role. The Princess said (proudly, I thought), "I'm the star."
"Hey, that's cool!" I enthused.
"No, I mean LITERALLY I'm the star. The Star of Bethlehem."
OH-kay. . .
Sis confided later that the main reason she had cast the Princess as the Star had nothing to do with nepotism. True, the role is the largest in the play--but, she added pragmatically, "With her, I knew for certain I could bully her into learning the lines."
Okay, the graphics in this video are moderately weird. But Gill's sweet tenor and the gorgeous harmony vocals overcome the graphics and make a lyrically commonplace song about the Star of Bethlehem into a rare treasure. Hope you like!
This is lovely, Fair. I really like the idea of being able to look at an image and listen to the music. If you don't like the graphics, just tune them out by scrolling back up after clicking on the song.
I don't have that particular Vince Gill CD, but I do have another Christmas recording called "Breath of Heaven." I had trouble finding any recordings from that, however, so I brought this one, instead, which I personally think is among the best modern Christmas songs ...
By the way, the real treasure in this story is the Princess, as I'm sure you realize. What a blessing for you and your sister, and no doubt for your mom. My best wishes to all for a merry little Christmas.

I've heard Gill's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and I agree; one of the best modern Christmas songs, and he does it more than justice, although I have to admit to some prejudice in favor of Judy Garland's version for sheer poignance. I also am in favor of using a picture to offset strange or inappropriate video images. (Except, of course, when the video is of Hampson. )
As for the Princess, you're right. She, Amanda and Bubba are our treasures. (Bubba brought us the Princess's latest school picture the other day. Red sweater, posed by a Christmas tree and a fake fireplace. She looks elfin )and frankly mischievous.)
Same to you, my dear. (Is Beam coming in for Christmas, BTW?)
I'm sorry, Fair. I didn't mean Gill's recording of that in particular. Just that I liked the song. As for Beam, it's still unclear. Depends on what time she can get off and also on the weather cooperating. Could be a different Christmas altogether this year if she doesn't.

I also love the idea of putting an image to the music. Works very well. I'm sure the Princess will do a wonderful job. You and your family are truly blessed with her, Amanda and Bubba. I really like the Vince Gill video. All those characters and the song is wonderful. Moon, I hope Moonbeam is able to spend Christmas with you. Otherwise you're more than welcome to come to L.A. and spend it with us. Lots of food. I promise not to make you cook and there will be whatever your beverage of choice. You may also bring Hampson if you wish

Thank you, Laura. I appreciate the offer, and I'll ask Hampson right away. I'm sure he has nothing better to do than spend Christmas with me. LoL But seriously, Christmas in LA sounds wonderful. I've only been away from home once on Christmas, and that was the year we went to Disneyworld. It was fun to experience it in a different way. If only. But you're a dear for offering.

If one thinks about the Star of Bethlehem shining on the Baby Jesus and how innocent children of a very young age really are. Then the graphics, which are a combination of anime, Disney and Chas Shultz, make sense.
And, Vince Gill always makes sense. Now excuse me, I need to go drool..errrr...listen to him sing again.

Hey, Sher, I went back and watched and listened to the video again--and you're exactly right! Thanks for pointing that out! (PS Gill is droolworthy indeed. )
