 Mimosa
Back to Full Blog

Today these are in bloom. In our area they run through a whole range of pinks, from a soft champagne to Day-Glo. The most interesting shade is a sort of orangy-pink, like salmon. Native to Central and South America, these probably came here to our humid subtropical zone as an exotic and sort of went wild; they're more common on roadsides and in hedgerows than in yards.

Later! Fair thee well.

I see these a lot in the area. I was actually wondering how one would look in my front yard...

My grandmother had mimosas in her front yard. The blossoms would blow off the trees and drop their seeds, and where the seeds drop generally a new tree would come up. They spread from her yard into the woods across the road--guess you could they sort of went feral But the flowers are so pretty, and they have a lovely smell too! Thanks for stopping by, Secret!

Tried to find some for my yard but they said it is a disease prone tree so did not get it. Too bad. Always liked it. The street in Norf olkwhere we lived when we were first married was lined with glorious mimosas.

They aren't the hardiest tree in the world, true, Sid. I wonder if that has anything to do with them not being native. But they are indeed beautiful, that startling pink out of nowhere. Thanks for stopping by!
